Nursing Home Care App

Regenstrief Institute, Probari (Care Revolution)

Conceptualized and crafted a beautiful user experience for a start-up which aims at reducing hospitalization rates of nursing home residents. I worked up from the abstract proposal by conducting deep research, creating extensive design and adeptly testing everything by engaging with the nurses, doctors and stakeholders.

Nursing Home Care App

Probari (Care Revolution) has a strong nursing home specialty care program supported by Optimistic's team which aims at identifying the early symptoms among the residents and provide treatment in the initial stages, thereby reducing hospitalizations. The program is well research by expert doctors and nurses which shows proven results in many nursing homes where this program was implemented. The team wanted to move away from paper based structure to a better digital system. I was assigned the task to understand the struggles of the nurses and doctors who worked to implement the program at multiple nursing care facilities across Indiana. I worked towards finding the root cause of errors in the nursing home systems which led to communication gaps between nurses and doctors. The team was very supportive of the entire UX process and thoroughly participated at each step of the research, design and testing phases. The outcome being a tablet app designed specially for nurse to assess patients by their bedside.

I conducted literature study and competitor survey which helped me learn about the domain. To better understand the product's vision, I interviewed stakeholders and performed card sorting with them. I collaborated with nurses and doctors and conducted user interviews, survey, card sorting and contextual inquiry during site visit. The data was used for ideation and crafting personas.

The quantitative data was analyzed using information visualization and affinity diagram was used to categorize the findings from qualitative data. Based on the results, I was able to construct a user centric architecture suitable for the medical field.

I sketched numerous colorful designs for early conceptualization. Later, I used Adobe XD to finish the high-fidelity mocks.

For early concept validation, the paper sketches were tested with multiple nurses representing different nursing homes. Further the iterations only uplifted the tailor made experience with the help of expert team. The final designs were put to test using persona based cognitive walkthrough and pilot test. Later, the prototype was tested with nurses using scenario based think aloud test. Considering the results of evaluation, post-test survey and user feedback, the designs were refined.
